Government: does my body good like a nice super-sized helping of french fries*
Seeing this proposed legislation today has seriously made my blood pressure rise. I’m getting dizzy.
San Franciso ballot measure to ban male circumcision under the age of 18
- With no religious exemptions.
- From their website (lookin’ like it came straight out of the early 90s): “…so that boys may enjoy the same protection from circumcision as girls” - NO. Male circumcision is not comparable to female circumcision:
- First, it is common practice in the US, and there are reported health benefits to this procedure. The WHO would like to promote circumcision as a method for preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS.
- Second, society needs to stop playing up this concocted and unquestioned need for hyper-equality when there is no place for such comparability. We can learn something from the post-structural feminists here: differences in biology and spirit should be embraced, not smoothed over. Men and women are fundamentally different on some grounds, just as human beings are fundamentally different from the pet dogs and cats that we spay and neuter.
- Okay so I understand the concern for the boy having a say in the state of his foreskin, but what 18-year-old is going to elect to put a knife to his penis when he comes of age? Parents make choices for children, who are not yet capable of granting rational consent.
And… Texting While Walking Is Now a Crime in Philadelphia
- Which thankfully turned out to be “utterly false” - the Mayor’s office.
*which shall remain my choice to ingest.
